PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, As satrap, 323-305 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 15.68 g, 12 h), Ptolemaic standard, Alexandria, circa 306-300. Diademed head of the deified Alexander III to right, with horn of Zeus Ammon above his ear, wearing elephant skin headdress and aegis around his neck; small Δ on aegis. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Athena Alkidemos advancing right, brandishing spear with her right hand and holding shield in her left; to right, Corinthian helmet to right over monogram of KΡ and eagle standing right on thunderbolt. CPE 70. SNG Copenhagen -. Svoronos 164. Beautifully toned and sharply struck, with an excellent portrait of particularly fine style. Minor horn silver and with the usual graffito on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
